FBH Supporters Club

THE first meeting of the Four Burrow Hunt Supporters' Club was held at The Deer Park, Tregavethan, Truro, on Thursday, November 17, 1964, when Mr Edgar Mitchell was elected as Chairman.

The club's first President (1965) was Master John Williams, and Mr and Mrs Percival Williams were elected as Vice-Presidents. The Supporters' Club borrowed £50 from the Hunt Committee as a float to start the club and the first membership subscription was 5 shillings.

Puppy Show 1907The Supporters' Club has two main objectives: To unite in one club all people who have the Four Burrow Hunt at heart; and to raise funds so that the hunting in the country may be maintained and improved.

The club holds approximately eight fund raising events during the year, and over the years the club has achieved many objectives. The Four Burrow Hunt Supporters Club has purchased seven hunt vehicles, and contributed to the purchase or purchased in total many hunt horses. The club has also funded improvements to the kennels and the kennel cottage, and paid for general maintenance work, as well as funding improvements in the country i.e. hunting gates, jumps etc.

The Four Burrow Hunt makes a considerable contribution to the recreational and social life of West Cornwall. Local people - by no means all of whom are farmers - follow the hunt up to five days each fortnight from September to March. A number of people - especially children - have taken to riding through the Four Burrow Hunt and its Pony Club and several have gone on to compete in equestrian events all over the world.

Puppy Show 2006The Four Burrow Hunt also organises One Day Events, Hunter Trials, long distance rides, a Ball, a point-to-point steeplechase race meeting (and helps to run two others), anyone is welcome to attend and they are generally well supported. Indeed the Four Burrow Hunt One Day Event and Hunter Trials are so well supported that they usually have to be balloted to control the entries.
